TEDx Speaker Cheyenne Cochrane talks Curls, Culture, and Empowerment
By · Updated June 29, 2017

Cheyenne Cochrane is one of the most vocal ambassadors in the natural hair movement. As the Founder of The Level Up, Cochrane motivates and inspires hundreds of thousands of natural, curly, and textured hair people through engaging content. Her candor and enthusiasm is infectious, stirring a sense of action in all who listen to her speeches and read her words.

Here, we are revisiting her compelling speech, A Celebration of Natural Hair, which was given to a captive audience at TEDxBeaconStreet in November 2016. In it, Cochrane addresses issues that impact marginalized people including natural hair and dreadlocks in the workplace, the invention of both the hot comb and the relaxer, and challenging global beauty standards.
