Wavy hair can be incredibly versatile, and add texture and hold to hairstyles
that might fall flat on straighter hair. We’ve rounded up 15 of the best
hairstyles to try out on wavy hair.
1. The Half-up Ponytail
We’ll kick off with a quick and easy one! The key to this hairstyle is volume which wavy hair can sometimes lack. India Batson gives a good tip here: once you’ve scooped the top layer into a high ponytail at the back of your head, use a claw clip underneath the pony to lift it even further.
2. Loose low Spacebuns

Super cute for a beach trip or festival. Divide hair in half and loosely bunch hair
below the ears. Secure in loose messy buns using spiral bands. Pull a few tendrils out around the face for a softer look.
3. Messy Loose Pony

Wavy hair is the best type of hair for a messy pony. Simply scoop hair to
the crown of the head and secure in place with a spiral band or
scrunchie. Leave loose sections around the face. This looks especially
good with long bangs like @nothangtw!
4. Waves with Clip

Having a day where your waves just won’t refresh? Enhance natural waves with a fun accessory. With hair swept into a side part, pin the side with the less hair slightly behind and above the ear with a clip. @wavycurlsian says “Refreshes don’t always work for me, so when that happens I just call it a day and opt for a cute side sweep like this!”
5. Temporary Color
@briciaemilyn ive been wanting to see what I look like with red hair again so I had to try @asiamnaturally Curl Color in Hot Red ? #asiam #curlcolor #redhair #temporarycolor #fyp #curly #curlyhair – Dusty Sky” href=”https://www.tiktok.com/music/Hip-Hop-with-impressive-piano-sound-793766-6860502663327385601?refer=embed” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>♬ Hip Hop with impressive piano sound(793766″> – Dusty Sky
To really stand out, why not try upgrading you waves with a pop of
color. There are so many temporary color masks to try now like the As I Am Curl Color which also provides some hold. This on-trend red tone really enhances waves and curls.
6. Half-up Loose Bun

Using a scrunchie for a looser look, divide hair into two sections and
secure in a loose half pony at the crown of the head. Just above the scrunchie, make a small division and pull the pony halfway through into a loose bun. @wavydiede makes it look easy.
7. Low Double Bun

We all know how to do a simple bun, and it’s just as easy to do twice for a simple look that feels special. Securing the buns with pins allows your buns some movement, and loose styles like this really play up the natural texture of wavy hair.

8. Side Part Updo (great for bad hair days”>

Similar to the previous style, this creates a sense of relaxed elegance. It’s
perfect for weddings or special events. Begin by adding mousse to the hair and dividing it into two sections – one for the ponytail and a front section for the side part. Pin the section back into the ponytail, then watch the tutorial to see how Jayme Jo creates her loose buns with ends out.
9. High Wavy Twist

Another elegant updo that looks like you haven’t tried too hard. Wear
hair in a side part and twist hair at the back of the head and pin with a
claw clip high up towards the crown. Allow tendrils to fall down at one
side. The key to this whimsical look is to embrace some frizz to look like
you’ve just been dancing in the woods!
10. Low Pinned Updo
The key to this look is lots of bobby pins! Firstly, give yourself some
height at the crown by sectioning the top and pushing it up and pinning
it in place. Then pin smaller sections from either side of your head at the
back, overlapping each other and tucking the ends in. Create two low
buns at the nape of the neck and pin in place, loosening the waves so
the buns are undefined. Leah Noel’s tutorial makes it look easy peasy!
11. Tight French Pleat
This French pleat is achieved using a hair screw. Pull hair into a low pony,
and then start to twist hair upwards, tucking the ends in as the pleat
begins to form. Place the screw at the base of the pleat and twist in and
up until the screw vanishes into the hair completely. No need for bobby
pins! Watch how Becka Bradshaw, Redken Artist does hers.
12. The Two Braid Bun

A very pretty style and not as complicated as it sounds! Divide your hair as if you were going to do a half up-do. Braid the top section in any type of plait you wish. Pull the plait forward and secure it at the front loosely to keep it out of the way. Divide the bottom section in half and braid the top part of this section and pin up. Create a bun with the bottom section. Take both braids and wrap them around in the bun pinning them in place.
13. The Flip Braid
Wavy hair can make this cute trick extra special by adding texture. To
begin, leave out a few sections of hair at the front and divide the hair
into a front and back section. Tie the back section in a low loose
ponytail. Create two low braids pulling them to the back of the hair and
tying together with an elastic at the very end of the braids. Twist the braids to make a loop and pull the ponytail through. @hairromance
breaks it down here.
14. Double Barette Updo
,0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15″>; margin: 1px; max-width: 540px; min-width: 326px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% – 2px”>;” data-instgrm-permalink=”https://www.instagram.com/reel/CS19e_sokI2/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading” data-instgrm-version=”14″>View this post on Instagram
This updo is super easy and has maximum impact. Divide hair into two
sections, front and back. Pull front section forward and secure out of the
way. Twist back section up and pin in place with a barrette. Smooth
front section back, then push forward and twist to create a slight quiff.
Pin in place with second barrette. Pin loose waves on top of head with
bobby pins. The gorgeous @wavycurlysian shows us how here.
