This Carrie Bradshaw Isn't Naturally Curly

Textured Hair Triggers Sexual Attraction
By · Updated May 24, 2013

“The Carrie Diaries” is the show about a young Carrie Bradshaw in an 80s-era Manhattan, despite the fact that almost all the facts about her young life are wrong, where seemingly important details about her young life are brought up and then never mentioned again, including her best girlfriends in “Sex and The City.” OK – so I’m not a fan. Fan or not (we’re all entitled to our own opinions”>, chew on this: actress AnnaSophia Robb’s hair is naturally stick straight.

It’s a commonality in the world of Hollywood for actresses to change their hair texture or color to fit a certain role. But most often, and much to our dismay, that texture change is from wavy, curly or coily to board straight. Rarely does the heat tool actually move in the opposite direction and create a mass amount of curl from a head of hair that naturally has none. Yet, despite Robb’s straight hair, the casting directors claim it was her sense of youth and real, down-to-earth personality that won her the coveted spot of a younger Carrie – in all her infamous, curly hair glory. While Sarah Jessica Parker’s hair in the series was a natural portrayal of her locks, in “Sex and the City” it was the actress herself who gave such a rise and name to Carrie Bradshaw. In fact, Sarah Jessica Parker often picked out the wardrobe for her character – giving her that “je ne sais quoi” touch that most of us aren’t readily able to pull off. So, what does the iconic star think of the new series and the younger actress? “”It’s just, I don’t know. I can’t imagine anyone else playing Dorothy Gale — just Judy Garland,” Parker told MTV in 2010. Then in a later interview with Net-a-Porter: “I’m not sure…You know, I think it’s one of those things that tests your generosity. She [AnnaSophia Robb] is a lovely girl and I want her to feel good about it, but it’s…odd.” Doesn’t much seem like the Carrie of renowned fame is much a fan of the Carrie of mentionable fame, but in keeping with both of the series’ goals, it doesn’t seem like older Carrie would much like younger Carrie anyway. After all, don’t we all grow up? Nonetheless, if one thing is for certain, it is this: Sarah Jessica Parker’s curls made Carrie Bradshaw a natural, beautiful, relatable woman that women throughout the country envied for years. Her curls were such a part of her life and her personality that in order for AnnaSophia Robb to even remotely resemble the woman we grew to know and love, she must sit through an hour plus of styling to get her straight hair to turn curly. Looks like even if the grass seems to be greener on the other side, at least our side is the memorable one. Keep it curly, ladies!
