Q: Nikki, does rinsing with cold water really help? What is it good for?
CurlyNikki: Girl, yes! It’s painful, but beneficial. After detangling and conditioning your hair under warm (not hot”> water, turn the dial to cold and complete your final rinse before gently wringing the hair and styling. Cold water seals the cuticle to keep the moisture in, and makes your hair easier to finger comb during the styling process. Once it’s dry, your hair should be shinier, and more defined!
This is something I used to do faithfully, but just like my weekly DTs and bi-weekly henna treatments, it too has gone to the wayside. In Tracee Ellis Ross’ hair interview (for Essence“>, she mentioned that she does an icy final rinse too. If Tracee does, it must be good, lol.
Who here does the final cold water rinse, and what are your thoughts? Let me know below, in the comments are!
