Some people absolutely love this time of year because they get this renewed burst of energy to take the world by storm with all the changes they are embarking on. Believe it or not, going natural is on the top of the list for more people than polls and surveys can keep track of.
Here are five natural resolutions that you’ve probably made to yourself before, and the encouraging words to keep you going in the right direction.
5 Natural Hair Resolutions
1. Have Courage in Your Conviction
There are heaps of YouTube video tutorials, online blogs, books, and magazines dedicated to gifting folk with the courage and nerve to take the dive into the deep springs of the trendy world of “naturalites.”
You look at the kinky glamour that is the result of either really good genes or someone super-committed to hair craftsmanship and you boldly think to yourself, “I can do this. I can go natural!” And you’re off on a personal adventure feverishly blog-reading and product-buying.
Then reality settles in the pit of your stomach and fear tries to make you its victim.
Well, rest assured that though going natural is not for the faint of heart, this is your resolution and that means it must happen! It’s just going to take some guts and a few tips along the way.
2. Then Stick With It!
Third time’s the charm, right?
Trust and absolutely believe, you are not alone. Just google “natural hair” and you will be united with your people. This year will be different.
Two New Year’s resolutions ago, the fear was that you wouldn’t know how to manage your hair. But research and experimenting have imparted their wisdom both on and offline and now you know more. The year after that, there was a huge ball of anxiety rolling fast in your direction as you wondered what this change would mean for your appearance. Specifically, you wondered if others would accept the new you.
Then you realized, “Hey, I’m kinda absolutely hot either way you slice me. Each angle sings, ‘who’s that lady?’” So you’re over that.
This year, dread is whispering in your ear that the transition period is nothing nice. Well, good news commeth in the New Year because you can transition in phases.
AND you learned all the great lessons via trial and error and lots of reading. You’re ready! Luscious, natural hair, here you come!
3. Avoid the Plight of the Product Junkie
There’s only one way to escape the urge to hoard oils from fruit and veggies and shampoos and conditioners advertised by women in showers having an extremely nice time as the water lathers their head.
There’s only one way. Avoid the hair care aisle and resist the temptation to click on the pop-up ads that say “Curly Hair in Seconds…Click Here”.
In more sensible terms, set a budget for yourself and stick to it.
Do some reading ahead of time about what makes your hair happy and ask experts.
You’ll know if you’ve gone overboard with product binging when you can’t find a place to put your toothbrush in the bathroom.
4. Try Something New
You and your hair have been in a relationship for too long to count, so you have to find ways to spice it up. Try different things.
Updos are fab and accessories are literally everything. They are like that black dress you’ve worn to every black tie event with a different statement accessory each time, people are like “Wow! You look amazing. Did you do something to your hair?” And you think literally, “This old thing. I’ve had it for years — the dress and my hair.”

5. Believe In Yourself
The honest fact of the matter is, you look good already.
It’s like the smoker who pays a hypnotherapist a $100 every week to stop smoking. He had the will power all along, the hypnotherapist just made him believe it.
Moral of the story is there’s nothing wrong with spending $100 on your hair and beauty. But when you already believe it, you spend more time exercising that belief. You are then well on your way to naturally loving a new you and new hair.
