FORM Beauty has been surrounded by buzz since its launch last year, and it’s exciting to hear how everyone in the textured and curly hair communities have responded to it. Because we are focused on giving you the low down on every product that lands on our desks at the headquarters, I tapped a couple of colleagues to help me share how FORM worked on our varied hair types. Here are our results!
Here’s what happened to our 3 different textures and curls when we tried FORM minis:
Fran: Very fine, low density, high porosity type 3B curls
Fran followed the Bounce Lifestyle Set regimen:
I used the entire Bounce set except for the extra Clarifying Shampoo Cleaner that was included in the kit. I didn’t use any extra products with it, just used the complete system to see how they well they all work with each other.
I absolutely loved the Define Curl Creme. It gave me perfect frizz-free definition, plus curls with great bounce!
The shampoo was adequate, but I needed more moisture after having used it, which is why I used the conditioner as a follow-up. For the leave-in, I enjoyed it. I sprayed it on my curls several times to get accurate, complete coverage.
What I appreciate most about FORM is its style. These bottles are beautiful, and they give off a professional salon grade feeling! I also enjoyed that they give the option for people to purchase their products in different lifestyle sets; it takes the guessing out of the consumers’ hands.
Cristina: Coarse, medium density, high porosity, Type 2C/3A waves and curly hair
Cristina followed the Transform Lifestyle Set regimen:
I used the set on a day when my hair had been styled up in a holiday updo by a stylist. It had been highly manipulated and was full of product, so it was more tangled than usual. I cleansed, conditioned, detangled, and styled my hair with the set.
I just used the FORM products so I that I could get a feel for how they played with each other on my hair.
I loved the smell! Each scent was different for each product, and in my opinion, they really nailed it in this department. They smell like luxury fragrances to me – not too sweet, and not overbearing. I’ll probably be using these again purely for the scent.
I also love that these come in “minis,” so you can try them out before committing to a full size.
The conditioner didn’t give me as much slip as I wanted, especially since I was dealing with extra knots, so I would probably recommend a different conditioner to detangle with.
My favorite product was the curl cream, it had just the right consistency that made it easy for me to apply and scrunch with. I found that my hair took longer than usual to dry with the curl cream on, which leads me to believe that this product is suitable for anyone who wants to hold onto moisture and struggles with dryness. It gave me soft, touchable hold that lasted all day and helped me fight frizz – even in the rain!
Gerilyn: Medium and coarse, high density, low porosity, Type 4C coils
Gerilyn followed the Detail Lifestyle Set regimen:
It was a relief to have a full set of product to use the day of taking my naturally curly hair out of the unicorn box braids I DIY’d. Although there was enough product for just a one-time use, I thought that the shampoo helped to clear away the product buildup on my scalp. I would use it again post-protective styling because of this, but would prefer that it moisturized a bit more so that I could use it more frequently.
To get moisture restored to my scalp and hair strands, I let the conditioner sit in my hair for roughly 20 minutes. It made my hair feel soft and left it smelling very nice!
After washing out the conditioner, I moved on to the Multitask Leave-in Lotion which has a thick consistency. Because it sprays out of the bottle, its application was simple. Then, I used the Twist Protective Style Cream to set my curls in to Bantu Knots before going to bed.
What I liked most about it the Detail Lifestyle Set was the Twist Protective Style Cream. Frankly, I was surprised that it helped elongate my curls; I was only expecting definition (which I also got”>. Because my low porosity curls respond best to heavy emollients, I coated my fingertips with Jamaican Black Castor Oil to add moisture to my curls while unraveling my knots. The cream helped me keep my Afro fluffy throughout the work day!
