Hi, my name is Graham and I live in Germany.
I’m biracial–my mom is white and my dad is Puerto-Rican African American. My uncle owns a driving school and I work in the office there. At home, I’m a Hair Vlogger (YouTuber”>. I also like to talk about fashion and health, too!
My hair type? It’s hard to explain…I have so many hair types.
Let’s start in the back (neck”>, where some would say I have 4a hair, which is very dry and kinky. In the middle I would say temples high i have 3c hair and on top and in the front I have some 3b curls. I have worn my hair in its natural texture almost my whole life. I had a relaxer once when I was about 10 or 12 years old, but one haircut later, I got rid of it.
For defined curls, I use a heavy, thick leave-in product or a butter/cream. I like Cantu Shea Butter leave-in.My hair routine
For me the L.O.C Method works perfect if I want defined curls for days. While applying the leave-in, I make sure that I don’t run my fingers too much through my hair. I try to clump my hair as much as possible together and I never touch my wet hair–at least I try not to! My advice for frizz-free and defined curls is to stay away from them while they’re wet.I cannot live without a great leave-in conditioner. I have tried to do my wash regimen before without one. I applied only oil and let’s just say… it was a horrible idea.
My hair looked so puffy and frizzy. It really looked like I have no comb at home and I don’t know how to take care of my hair. So moral of the story is, no more wash days without a leave-in conditioner.
Nighttime maintenance
At night before bed, I oil my hair, especially my ends. I really do this every single night. I just use some of my favorite oil or whatever I have at the moment. I like the DermOrganic Leave-In treatment Argan Oil or some Coconut or Macadamia Oil. I distribute all over my hair from roots to ends and then I use a little bit of Jamaican Black Castor Oil just on my ends. After that, I put my hair in a very high ponytail (pineapple”> and I only use satin scrunchies. Then I take a silk scarf and tie it around my head. And to control the frizz of my loose hanging curls on top I put a hair net around them. Then I know I am over-protected!
Coconut oil
I discovered a few weeks ago that my hair really likes Coconut oil products–shampoos, conditioners, deep conditioners. So these are my faves right now. But I also try so many products, so it can change quickly! If someone were to ask me in two weeks I may say my hair loves Black Vanilla products… who knows! But I don’t have a favorite styling tool right now.
[prodmod]My advice to curly men
The biggest piece of advice I can give is to learn and love your hair. I would give that advice to anyone. I hated my hair when I was younger, but after learning all these helpful things about hair I now can say that I really LOVE my hair. I cannot imagine a day without my beautiful curls. As guys you can rock big, fluffy curly afros.
Hair is not just a girly thing. Men can also have long curly hair. Don’t be ashamed to buy a deep conditioner and a satin scarf, and if someone asks what you want with that… tell them you are on a healthy hair journey.
If you haven’t embraced your curls yet, don’t be afraid. You only live once so go for it before it’s too late. Wear your hair how you want now because maybe one day, you might regret it.
