Spritz Up Your Curly Hair Care
Bun

Do you and your hair have an on-going love affair? Some days does your mane want independence from your frizz-free ways? Then it’s about time to rekindle the the flame and wrangle your hair back in!

Misting your hair with a trigger spray bottle is a great way to put some life back into your curls without the time, hassle, heat and the damage of a full-blown shampoo and styling session. A spray bottle can be incorporated into your regular curly hair care routine for support and assistance, from detangling to reducing frizz and much more! Of course, what you put in your spray bottle is the most important part of this process.

What you put in your bottle will depend on what you need, be it less frizz, more body, or what have you. Best of all, you can use household products and curly hair care products you already own.

What To Use

  1. Water. All alone, water is a source of life for your hair. Water has a pH slightly more alkaline than hair and skin. A misting of water plumps hair up, providing body and fullness. Water will also reduce static and calm fly-a-ways. Super fine mist bottles create almost fog like vapor that works well and feels refreshing, too.
  2. Lemon Juice. The acidity of lemon juice reduces frizz by closing the cuticle, the outer layer of the hair. Closing the cuticle aids in light reflection meaning that lemon juice also adds loads of shine! Lemon juice will also lighten hair a bit, providing some highlight for added dimension and texture. Add the juice of one large lemon to a 12-ounce bottle of water for a proper mix.
  3. Conditioner. Smoothing and detangling conditioners can be diluted with water to make light weight sprays. Spray this mix on your curls to restyle and refresh your curls any time. One ounce of rinse out conditioner added to 12 ounces of water works well.
  4. Styling Glaze or Gel. Sometimes, even the lightest styling products can be too heavy for your hair. Mix two ounces of styling glaze with 12 ounces water to create a spray-able styling liquid. Shake well with every use and prime the sprayer with a few spritzes if the product appears to separate between uses.
  5. Silicone Shine Drops. Add eight to ten drops of silicone based shine to a 12-ounce water bottle to create a great detangling solution. Shake it up and spray it on. Use a wide-toothed comb, or your fingers, working from the bottom up, to remove snarls and snags. There is no need to rinse afterwards. Just go about your regular styling routine.

Get AnnaLynne McCord’s Curly Hairstyle
Bun

AnnaLynne McCord stepped out in high fashion and amazing curl at the Cirque Du Soleil World Premiere of “Iris.” This is a classy curly hairstyle that works both at home and at the office, on the weekend and even on the red carpet.

Copy Her Curly Cut

The look is a long layered style with a face framing angle. The overall length is trimmed to create a solid base line.

  1. Cut straight across with scissors. Part your hair down the middle and drape each side over your shoulders. Cut one side and then the other to match. Move your hair behind your shoulders and check from the back in a mirror to be sure both sides match. Adjust if needed.
  2. Cut the layers in one big snip. Hold all your hair in a pony way above your head. The back and sides should NOT reach into the pony. This will keep the base line full and heavy. Snip off the very end of the pony to a length equal to the shortest layer you want on the top of your head. Use the shortest top piece as a starting point to cut the face framing sides.
  3. Tip your head forward and cut a line connecting the short top front piece to the lower bottom corner on each side. When you lift your head up, this will create a face-framing angle.

The result is a light, airy shape the highlights your curly texture and frames your face.

Mimic Her Curly Color

Anna’s hair tone is a warm level 6 brown with highlights. If your hair is naturally darker select a shade level 7 or 8 labeled warm brown. Look for a gold base color. You will need some lift so 30 volume developer is a good choice. Process following the manufacturers directions.

If your color is naturally lighter you need to deposit pigment. A level 6 warm brown with a gold base is the choice. Process with 10 volume developer for more color deposit. Selected strands can be highlighted after the base color is processed by hand painting on a small amount of lightener to the hair’s surface around the face. Follow the manufacturer’s directions and watch the color as it lifts. Rinse out the lightener when you see the highlight shade you like.

  1. Gently squeeze and blot the excess moisture from your hair with a microfiber towel. Spray on and comb through a misting of Zoot Hair Primer. Primer helps your styling product to bond to the hair, evens porosity and increases style durability.
  2. Apply a glaze, like Zoot Curly Glaze, throughout your hair on top of the primer. Use wide spread fingers to coat all surfaces and the inside of your hair. You do not want to just apply product to the top surface of your hair.
  3. Scrunch dry with a diffuser, lifting hair up to reduce the force of gravity and encourage natural curl formation. Clip up selected pieces at the base where some lift assistance is needed. Lightly mist your finished look with Zoot Hair Lock Your Look Firm Hold Hair Spray for hold that will last.

The look is an easy, mid length shape with long, full layers. The overall length is trimmed to create a solid base line.

  1. Cut straight across with scissors. It is better to cut this type of shape dry so you can really see what you have got. If your hair is wet and stretched, the spring back will be more than you expect.
  2. Trim the base line at the sides. Use a 3-way mirror or the assistance of a friend to connect the sides through the back.
  3. Cut the layers, working from the top down. Trim the very top layer to the length that gives the fullness you want. Lift sections between this top layer and the bottom layer out from your head at a 45-degree angle, half way from bottom to top. Have a piece of the top section in your fingers as a guide, and snip other sections to match to it.

The result is a full shape that shows off kinky hair’s amazing texture!

Drew Barrymore’s Fall Hair Color & Style
Bun

Drew Berrymore’s recent new look has a warm, fresh feel for the coming cooler months of fall 2011.

You can easily replicate her color and style with these insider tips.  This look will work best for natural type 2 wavy hair.

Get Drew’s Wavy Hairstyle

The look is an easy long layered shape.

  2. Cut the layers in a single snip. Gather all your hair in a pony tail above and out in front of your forehead. The longest of your hair should not reach into the pony. The pony tail holder should be far enough away from your head as to represent the length of the shortest of the long layers you wish to create in the front of the haircut. Cut off all the hair beyond the pony holder. Longest lengths from the back and sides have not been cut thereby remaining intact to preserve the solid base line.

What is Volume Developer?

  • Volume developer is used with professional or permanent hair color to lighten the strands.
  • Each hair color has a category, for example black hair is a level 1 and would need a 40 level developer to lighten the hair 4 shades.
  • When using volume developer, you should stick, strictly, to the instructions on the bottle or box.
  • Pay close attention to how long you leave the product on. For some, the hair will need to turn unwanted colors before it lightens to the desired color.
  • Not leaving the product on long enough will not simply create a darker color than you wanted, but it could very well be a different color all together.
  • Available for purchase at Sally Beauty.

Copy Drew’s Copper Tone

A warm, level 6 copper red is easy to duplicate. If your hair is naturally darker than Drew’s, select a shade level 7 or 8 labeled copper red, with orange base. You will need some lift, so 30 volume developer will be a good choice. If your color is naturally lighter, you need to deposit pigment. A level 6 copper red with orange base is the choice. Process with 10 volume developer for more pigment deposit.  On lighter hair, selected strands can be left out to create some highlighted effect. On darker hair, small amounts of hair lightener can be hand painted on selected strands on top of the processing base color to create highlights.

Achieve Drew’s Finished Style

Drew’s final look is loose and easy, making it an style to achieve at home!

  1. Scrunch a generous amount of mousse or styling glaze into towel dried hair. Allow the hair to air dry, scrunching with your hands periodically to enhance the degree of wave as desired. If your hair tends to be waiver than the desired finish, do less scrunching. If your hair has less wave, a bit more added scrunching will be beneficial.
  2. Power dry with a diffuser for a faster finish. Flip your head over once dry and hair spray from underneath if added fullness is desired. A silicone based shine product can be mixed with mousse if you have a tendency to frizz.  This will reduce the frizziness that can occur. Silicone based products are fine to use on curly hair as long as you shampoo often to get rid of any product build-up. If you do not shampoo often, opt for a silicone-free frizz fighting product.
