How to Look Amazing on New Year’s Eve

As New Years approaches, I’m sure we all struggle trying to find that just right simple and chic hairstyle. This semi-braided updo will surely give you a sleek and classy look that will turn heads.

What you’ll need

  • 8-12 bobby pins, an elastic headband, and an edge control of your choice (I used Curls Blueberry Control Paste“>.
  • Start off with a nice defined twist-out or braid out–my choice was a twist-out.

Directions

  1. Part your hair down the middle, and section two square pieces in the front that you will use for your two braids. Make sure you grab enough hair to braid with in both sections.

  2. Now that you have both front pieces braided take your braid and pull it back on top of your hair and place a bobby pin on the braid to secure it down. You will do this for both sides, you may need two bobby pins for each braid.

  3. Once you have your two braids pulled to the side, grab your elastic headband and place it on top of your head like a crown, making sure none of your hair is over the band.

  4. Now it is time to start pulling your hair back and tuck and cuff it into the band. Remember to make sure your two braids are still showing while you do this. You also want to make sure you grab a couple of bobby pins to secure the hair as you tuck into the band.

  5. Once you’ve tucked all of your hair, you will see that your band is showing at the top, simply and gently pull it down to meet with your tucked hair and add/hide it into the tucked hair and place a bobby to secure.

  6. Now that you have your Classy Semi Braided Updo, grab your edge control and sleek those edges down. You can also pull a few pieces out in the back to have a couple of dangly curls to add an even cuter holiday look. Happy New Years!

Now, for the styling.

  1. Section your hair into four sections while using the hair clamps.
  2. For your first section spray with water, split your hair add butter or cream and begin to twist.
  3. Repeat steps for each section until complete. I like to leave in overnight.
  4. Unravel and separate piece by piece the following day using a bit of oil, while ruffling up my hair with my hands adding a couple of shakes.
  5. Pick roots all over with hair pick.

Optional: To make my hair even fluffier I like to hop in the shower to let the steam magnify my hair.

Why This Butter Blend is a Twist Out Staple

My first thoughts of Truly You Super Soft Butter Blend was, here is another product saying that it will hydrate my thirsty curls, and probably won’t do the job. I had to put it to the test–especially because it serves as a pre-shampoo and also a daily hair moisturizer. Not to mention, it has all my favorite oils: Castor Oil, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Vitamin E Oil. Here is what I thought about the Super Soft Butter Blend.

Initial Reaction

The aroma of the product sold me, especially if you like the smell of cupcakes. The smell is not overpowering at all. The texture of the product is very creamy, not too thick, does not run or drip. I love that you can use it on wet, damp, and dry hair.

Main Ingredients

Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera Gel, Castor Oil, Vitamin E Oil, Jojoba Oil, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Fragrance, Paraben free, Silicone free, and Mineral Oil free.

My Experience

This product is great for twist-outs, bantu knots, braid-outs, pre-shampooing, and more. After using this product over and over again, I must say it’s the staple for all my Twist-outs. Super Soft Butter Blend always keeps my hair so soft, manageable, doesn’t weigh my hair down, no buildup, and definitely no flakiness. The product has as much moisture as it states, “3 times more moisture,” I use a little under a dime size amount for each twist. A little really does go a long way.

As you can tell, I absolutely love the product, my hair is silky smooth, smells edible, and with my hair being color treated, thick, 4a-4b hair, it does the job when my hair gets dry or brittle.

Final Take

I would definitely recommend this product to a curl friend. Women with finer textures make sure you do not use a lot, it may weigh your hair down.  An 8oz. jar is $20 online at www.trulyyoucurls.com or at one of these Houston, TX retailers:
