In case you missed it, NaturallyCurly hosted the biggest Texture on the Runway yet last Thursday to kick off New York Fashion Week. At a time where natural curls, kinks, and waves are finally being celebrated it’s amazing to witness the beauty of textured hair at the forefront of fashion. What truly sets Texture on the Runway apart from other NYFW shows is the storytelling element that each brand shares on stage to showcase the beauty and versatility of textured hair. Not only do the brands bring the heat with the jaw-dropping hairstyles and powerful messages, but the attendees also show up and show out! It’s an opportunity to intentionally create a space where women of all ages, sizes, ethnicities, and textures are celebrated. The positioning of Texture on the Runway during New York Fashion Week is meaningful because it not only gives you an opportunity to see yourself on the runway, but also to be in a room surrounded by your favorite curlfriends.
From the models to attendees, the proof is in the puff that representation matters. This year more than 900 people gathered at Gotham Hall to embrace, exemplify, and celebrate all the forms of textured hair.
